Yes AFL Team Inc. is a not-for-profit association whose mission is to actively support the establishment of a Tasmanian AFL team. To secure an AFL team licence, a multi-purpose stadium must be built at Macquarie Point.
This will occur through a collaborative effort between the Australian Government, the Tasmanian Government, and the AFL.
We are aiming to raise awareness and community support for a modern and iconic venue that will attract visitors, generate employment opportunities, contribute to Tasmania’s economy and set the Tasmanian AFL team up for the ultimate success.
It is forecast that this project will support 950 jobs each year across key industries including hospitality, transport, accommodation and services. The Tasmanian AFL and AFLW team are forecast to inject more than $120million into our economy every year and support over 300 jobs.
The vision for a new stadium at Macquarie Point is to create an exceptional sporting and entertainment destination that celebrates Tasmania’s rich sporting heritage and fosters a sense of pride and belonging among our community.
This venue will be able to host a range of events, including AFL matches, international competitions, conferences, and live music and entertainment. Through this redevelopment, we will become a premier destination for sports and events, improving the lives of Tasmanians and attracting visitors from around the world.
